Pattent Attorney
The Patent Attorney will team with employees from R&D, marketing and sales and will be responsible for handling a variety of patent (and other IP) matters primarily relating to firm's materials/gas delivery systems, chemical processes and process efficiency business units. The position reports directly to the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel. Take leadership role in helping to evaluate new ideas and directing the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, with appropriate claim breadth to maximize value. Assume overall responsibility of maintaining the quality of patent applications filed worldwide. Closely supervise outside counsel. Review and evaluate invention disclosures, patent applications and patents with respect to their value to firm and the marketplace. Interact with inventors submitting disclosures and consult with members of the appropriate research staff and product divisions as necessary. Support and execute on IP Strategy initiatives. Execute prior art searches and other effective legal research using Westlaw, the internet and other tools. Provide legal opinions to internal clients regarding third party patents. Aid in the IP Education of the internal clients in the business units you support. Help with efforts to enforce, license or otherwise grant rights to patents. Provide support on Non Disclosure Agreements and other contracts with IP provisions therein. BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with strong academic credentials; J.D. degree from accredited Law School; Minimum of 3+ years of solid patent prosecution experience in a relevant field, either with a law firm or an in-house department, former US Patent Examiner experience preferred. Admission to practice law in at least one state in the US, preferably CT or NY; USPTO.
Patent Attorney (Corporate)
Patent Attorney with a Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science background to assist in the protection, licensing and enforcement of technology. Self-starter and entrepreneurial environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ongoing strategic counseling and portfolio management for across multiple technical areas. Kee up to date on technical advances and manage the intellectual property portfolio in particular technologies. MS/PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or related scientific field. 1-3 years experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, as well as in analyzing and advising on patent infringement and validity issues. USPTO and CT registered. 2-5 years.
